Week 0 action, but those games did little to impact the rankings.
Notre Dame beating beating the brakes off of a triple-option service academy? No surprise at all.
The real meat of the schedule is coming up, with Week 1 on the horizon. LSU plays against Florida State; Utah plays Florida; Georgia plays…um…somebody.
Before we get any crazy upsets in the first week, here is the first edition of college football’s power rankings:
College Football Power Rankings
- Georgia: Duh.
- Michigan: In the first three weeks of the season, Michigan the distinct advantage of not having Jim Harbaugh as head coach.
- Ohio State: Ohio State is below Michigan so that the comments from angry Buckeye fans will drive up engagement.
- Alabama: With question marks at quarterback and the skill positions, Alabama looks to have another disappointing season as they come in at Number 4.
- LSU: Head coach Brian Kelly has brought success to LSU, no doubt a result of his southern values.
- USC: Lincoln Riley and USC are looking for their first Big 10 West division championship this season.
- Penn State: Penn State is a historic school with long-standing traditions, like their white-out games and losing to Ohio State and Michigan every year.
- Florida State: Florida State’s athletic director says if they beat LSU again this year, they get to join the SEC.
- Clemson: Clemson had one sub-par year, and that was all it took to make us forget about them.
- Washington: Not only do they have a high scoring offense, but so does any team that plays against them.
- Texas: The best team in the conference over the last decade gets one more shot at a Big 12 title before moving to the SEC, as does Texas.
- Tennessee: Wait, Joe Milton is still in college?
- Notre Dame: Just Because Sam Hartman transferred out of the ACC doesn’t mean that the ACC can stop worrying about him.
- Utah: USC and Washington are higher on this list, but Utah is the team looking to three-peat in the PAC 12.
- Oregon: Would have been lower on the rankings if not for their New York City billboards.
- Kansas State: They beat playoff bound TCU in the Conference Championship game last year, making those two teams the new Texas and Oklahoma of the Big 12.
- TCU: TCU is one spot below Kansas State to remind them that they lost to the Wildcats in the Big 12 Championship game last year.
- Oregon State: Oregon State, what are you doing here?
- Wisconsin: New head coach Luke Fickell can’t wait to take part in Wisconsin traditions, like losing in the Big 10 Championship Game every year.
- Oklahoma: They have a quarterback General Booty and play in Gaylord Stadium. What else needs to be said?
- North Carolina: Look for North Carolina to win a lot of games this year, just not the ones that are on a major network.
- Ole Miss: Ole Miss starts at number 22 for the second year in a row. They did well last year in this spot, until they played actual good teams.
- Texas A&M: Jimbo Fisher’s raise kicks in 2023. He will now make $700k for every point Alabama beats him by for the next 10 years.
- Tulane: Tulane beat USC in the Cotton Bowl last year, so I feel kind of obligated to throw them a spot in the top 25.
- Iowa: If Defense wins championships, you don’t even need an offense.
